FAQs

Can I use my insurance?

I accept in-network insurance for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield NJ, and Aetna.

Many other insurance plans offer reimbursements for out-of-network practitioners. Check with your plan; you may be able to get reimbursement for our sessions. If that is the case, then you will be able to submit your bill after payment to your insurance company for reimbursement. Reimbursement rates will vary by plan.

What type of therapy do you do?

I practice forms of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This means that I teach pragmatic thought and behavior-based ways to help you manage things that are negatively impacting your life. This includes ways to deal with anxiety, depression, chronic miscommunication, anger, helplessness, and more. I am a trained practitioner of Imago Relationship  skills (typically for couples but also useful if you can’t get your partner to attend) and have extensive training in EFT, or tapping therapy, for all ages. I also use mindfulness techniques to enhance the mind-body-spirit connection.

How long will it be until I feel better?

The answer shouldn’t be surprising, because of course, it depends. But small behavior and attitude practice can make surprising improvements. While it is not unusual for someone to feel better after their first session, I recommend that most people plan to come in weekly for 4-6 weeks in order to begin creating positive habits and long-term success. Many clients choose to continue for longer, but that is a good way to start.

For couples, do I have to come with my partner?

If you are both willing to participate and learn the new ways of being with each other the experience is that much more powerful. When working with couples, it is the interaction of you together that often requires practice and will lead to powerful healing. Although you are each responsible for your own emotions and experience, the other person can be so instrumental in your healing, as you are in your partners. I may request a session with each of you depending on the situation but if you are coming to see me to work on the relationship as a couple then it is best to see you both together. If your partner is refusing to come, don’t let that stop you, as many of the techniques I teach can be implemented and will transform your own perspective about the conflict or disconnection you may be experiencing.

What ages of children do you work with?

I have worked with children from elementary school through high school. While it is more common to work with older adolescents, I have been able to help younger children with school anxiety, behavior problems, and more.
